Using what you love in your home ... or sentimental twists

Last night I decided to do a little research on the Townsend and Wyatt Dry Goods Company. The bank had appealed to me when purchased for so many reasons, one of which is very fond memories of Department stores of distinction. The research revealed all kinds of darling photos and a history of T and W Dry Goods Company in Saint Joseph MO. Just my cup of tea, and perhaps yours as well, dear reader. Then I was lead to look at some essays written by students about the history of the people in their county.
I was rewarded by discovering an article about Dr. Seymore Pearley (1900-1983). He was a talented, generous, house calling professional, who considered his patients comfort by playing current music of the day in his waiting room. The article's title.... Dr. Seymore Pearley-Clay County's First African American Dentist. It was written by Hayley Vanderstel. Doctor Pearley once missed the bus to go to a Boy Scout camp. So he walked the almost 200 miles with a birthday cake for his sons birthday. Pretty near impossible to top that!!!
I always thought the bank was so sweet for the memory of the Department Stores of the past, and the little key and note that Mr. Billingsley, whom I had purchased the bank from, had later given me. Now it has the memory of love, energy, dedication, over coming obstacles, and a very special birthday cake.

I was delighted when I turned this brass tray over and saw the words HANDMADE the initial H and SWEDEN. It is so very similar to a family piece from my childhood home.

A guest room. I suggest that you decorate it with some of your favorite things.

The paperweight, one of a collection.

Another guest room furnished with favorite finds with the guests comfort in mind. Schiaparelli pink pillow. Books and magazines.

Antique serapes. A wedding gift ... are on display atop a trunk from my fathers childhood home.

When considering subject matter for your first oil painting, select something you love and later you can have both the serapes and the painting in the same room, if it pleases you.
